Following Liverpool’s win vs Glasgow Rangers in their UEFA Champions League Group stage game, the Reds’ left-back Kostas Tsimikas took to Instagram to show support for his fellow fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold. The right-back came under the scanner multiple times in the last few weeks following below-average performances from the Scouser.
The Liverpool academy graduate was in the Reds’ 2-0 win against the Rangers. An early goal from a set-piece from Trent would have boosted his confidence and he delivered a world-class performance, both offensively and defensively. He was arguably Liverpool’s best player on the night apart from Mohamed Salah.
The right-back made multiple headlines in the last month for his “below average” defending abilities and his abilities were also termed as “Championship level” by a former Premier League player. It certainly would have taken a lot of mental strength to make it through these comments and deliver a World Class, Man-of-the-Match winning performance on a European stage.
His fellow fullback Tsimikas, who plays down the left flank, had Trent’s back and showed him support via a social media post. The ‘Greek Scouser’ who is currently deputing for Andy Robertson, himself put in an excellent game down the left side of the defence and stood out as one of Liverpool’s best players on the night.
Tsimikas took to Instagram (h/t Liverpool Echo) to share a picture of him with Trent after the game, and congratulated him via the app, adding that the right-back “deserved it” via a story. Overall, a good game for Liverpool, and hopefully this game gives the Reds the jumpstart they needed to progress ahead in the season after their stuttering start to the season.
Moreover, it was extremely important for Trent to put in a good performance as the scrutiny he was under seemed endless. With a good performance to boot, he would hope to carry on this form and make sure that he gives critics not much to talk about.
With a tough test coming up against Arsenal midweek in the Premier League, that fixture will be a good judge of Liverpool’s capabilities at this point in time given the Gunners are currently leading the Premier League table and are in sublime form.
It remains to be seen if the ‘Greek Scouser’ and the ‘Scouser in our team’ retain their position down the flanks. Trent is hardly dropped by Klopp in big games while Andrew Robertson is still on his way back from the injury he picked up against Napoli.
