Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes he knows why Manchester City sold Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal

Speaking in an interview ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Arsenal as quoted by Liverpool Echo, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp believes he knows why Manchester City sold high-flying Gunners striker Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal in the summer.

Jesus made the switch from Manchester City to Arsenal earlier in the transfer window and he couldn’t have dreamt of a better start to life at the Emirates stadium. The Brazilian has hit the ground running and is arguably Arsenal’s most important player this season.

The 25-year-old Brazilian forward has for long been touted as having the potential to be a world-class striker and he finally seems to be realising all that under Mikel Arteta in his new team.

In 10 matches across all competitions this season for the Gunners, Jesus has managed to score five goals and provide four assists. Apart from these stats, his influence on the team is also felt, with the striker willing to link up play and move freely across the frontline.

Despite showing flashes of this brilliance during his time with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, he was never really given a chance in his natural position to establish himself as their main striker.

Ultimately, City chose to move on from Jesus and signed Erling Haaland, a move that worked extremely well for both parties. Haaland is finally looking the missing piece if Pep’s jigsaw whilst Jesus is doing the same role at Arsenal.

Speaking about Jesus, Klopp says he is able to understand why City chose to sell the Brazilian to Arsenal

“I know City wouldn’t have sold him to every club but Arsenal, the distance was big enough. Geographically! They did it”

It is good that Klopp clarified that he was talking about the geographical distance, as it would have led to unwanted speculation otherwise. City also sold Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal and Raheem Sterling to Chelsea this summer.
