FA are set to review the altercation during Liverpool-Arsenal game
Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães have been called up to present their cases to the Football Association about the altercation during the game between Liverpool and Arsenal on Sunday, according to Liverpool Echo.
The Mirror claims that the review is happening after Brazilian defender Gabriel who plays for Arsenal issued a complaint about something that he heard during the altercation and the incident is now under review.
Michael Oliver apparently want to hear both versions of the story and hence summoned Henderson and Gabriel. Both players eventually presented their cases after the full-time whistle. The referee also spoke to both managers before sending his report to the FA for further investigation.
Times now claim that the FA plan to review all the players involved in that particular incident. This could mean that Alisson Becker, Granit Xhaka and Roberto Firmino are called forward to present their views on the matter.
The FA themselves released a statement yesterday stating that they are in dialogue with the match officials and will review the incident.
“We are aware of an incident that took place during the match between Arsenal and Liverpool. We are in dialogue with the match officials and will review the details of the incident.”
In what was a fairly good-mannered match until then, referee Michael Oliver’s decision to hand Arsenal a penalty following a challenge on Gabriel Jesus from Spanish midfield wizard Thiago Alcantara set sparks off between the two teams.
Ultimately, it was a match that Liverpool lost 2-3 to Arsenal. The penalty that Jesus won in this particular incident eventually led to the winning goal for the London club with Bukayo Saka converting from the spot.
The penalty itself was a controversial call from Oliver. Whilst there was contact from the Spaniard on Jesus, the Brazilian seemed to be going down even before that and it felt like a soft penalty.
