Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold could be out of action for 2-3 weeks

In what comes as yet another blow for Liverpool in their already injury-plagued season, English full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is expected to miss 2-3 weeks of action after the injury he sustained against Arsenal in Liverpool’s loss on Sunday, according to Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool lost 2-3 to Arsenal in a match that saw the Reds lose Luis Diaz to an injury too. Trent, who stayed down after a heavy follow-through from Gabriel Martinelli did not emerge for the second half.

Joe Gomez replaced Trent at right-back for the second half but Liverpool’s fortunes did not really change much. Arsenal were the much better team on the day managing to outclass Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Whilst it is a blow that the talented 24-year-old will definitely miss out on the Champions League clash against Rangers and is a major doubt for the showdown against Manchester City next weekend, according to the Times, Liverpool would be glad that it is not much worse.

A longer lay-off would have also surely meant that Trent would miss the World Cup in Qatar, a tournament in which his possible inclusion in the England squad is already attracting contrasting views.

Liverpool will like to look at the silver lining with Trent but the same cannot be said about their luck with Luis Diaz. The Columbian winger isn’t expected to play again for the Reds this year and considering that he has been arguably their best player, this is a huge blow.

Trent’s form has been very questionable at the beginning of this campaign. He has been defensively caught out on a number of occasions and has been at direct fault for a number of goals that his team have conceded.

For a player who has provided so many assists in his Liverpool career on such a regular basis, Trent is yet to provide even a single assist in 12 matches across all competitions this season. The English international has scored three goals though.

These 2-3 weeks might not be a good thing for Liverpool but Trent could do with a much-needed break. If he can sort his head out and come back as the Trent that we all knew and adored, then it’ll add a whole new dimension to Jurgen Klopp’s team.
