Former Arsenal striker and Pundit Paul Merson forecasts the result of Manchester City v Liverpool
On Sunday, Liverpool will visit Manchester to face Pep Guardiola’s side in what could potentially be the fixture which could shape the Reds’ campaign from here on. Going into the fixture, the Merseysiders have not been in the best form in the league.
Manchester City on the other hand have been winning every game that is coming their way and currently sit second to Arsenal in the league table without any losses. An important factor in City’s stupendous record is the form of Erling Haaland. The Norwegian is the Premier League’s highest goalscorer this season.
Liverpool’s last two league fixtures have been more or less disappointing. A 3-3 draw to Brighton and Hove Albion at home followed by a 3-2 embarrassing defeat at the hands of Arsenal at The Emirates coming into this league fixture against probably the toughest squad to face in the league.
This league fixture between Manchester City and Liverpool on Sunday sees a prediction from Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, who believes the Reds would not win this game (h/t Liverpool Echo).
“Do I see Liverpool winning? No. They’re still letting in too many goals. Manchester City have got Haaland and will still win a lot of games this season. I don’t see how Liverpool are going to stop them from scoring at least two goals this weekend.”
Battle of the North-west Juggernauts
The former Arsenal striker believes that it will be a tough task for Liverpool’s backline to tackle Erling Haaland and moreover, he also says that he does not see the Reds preventing City from scoring two goals come this Sunday.
It is true that the Reds have particularly been letting the opposition outmuscle the midfield and the defence as well and score many goals. Furthermore, with Virgil van Dijk not at his usual best, it has been a burden for the rest of the backline to get going as well.
Knowing his nature, he would certainly want to come back to his best and make sure Liverpool get the best result possible on the weekend. Moreover, gaffer Jurgen Klopp would probably be the first one eager to prove Merson wrong and see to it that the Reds walk out of the Etihad as winners.
