According to Ashley Preece on Twitter (h/t Birmingham Mail), talented Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz
who was the subject of interest from Premier League clubs in the summer has signed a new long-term contract with the Villains.Liverpool apparently made a move for the former Manchester City prospect on deadline day, according to Liverpool Echo, but they were unable to convince the talented midfielder to come to Anfield.
The 24-year-old Brazilian midfielder who was on Man City’s books for some time eventually found his home at Villa Park where he has been one of the standout players for Steven Gerard’s side for some time now.
A regular in the team now, Luiz has played nine times for the Premier League club across all competitions this campaign, scoring a couple of goals until now. He is very highly rated and has been the subject of interest from clubs in the past.
Apart from the Reds, Arsenal apparently made as many as three bids to try and sign the player on deadline day but all three of them were rebuffed by Villa as they managed to keep hold of the player they have now given a new deal to.
Speaking about his time at Villa Park, the Brazilian midfielder conceded that he was very happy there
“We have so many good players. I believe so much in Aston Villa. I’m so happy.”
It remains to be seen if either Liverpool or Arsenal are still interested in the player come the next transfer window. The Gunners in particular could make a move for the player again, having approached Villa with three bids this time.
Liverpool are actively looking to reinforce their midfield options which have been a sore point for quite some time now. Luiz seems like the perfect Jurgen Klopp midfielder and can be a huge asset.
Douglas Luiz to Liverpool can always be an option in the future. Him signing a new contract is only going to make the negotiation more difficult but it remains to be seen if we return for the player in the near future.
