“I would rather”- Liverpool told why to not swap Mohamed Salah for PSG’s Kylian Mbappe

Emile Heskey says he will not swap Liverpool star Mohamed Salah for Kylian Mbappe

Speaking in an interview with Gambling.com as quoted by Liverpool Echo, former Reds striker Emile Heskey has explained why he will not swap out Mohamed Salah for Kylian Mbappe if he were making decisions at Liverpool.

Heskey goes on to explain why as good a player as Mbappe is, there is no way he wants him at Anfield instead of the Egyptian superstar. The former striker goes on to highlight the PSG star’s ego issues as the main reason.

Kylian Mbappe’s future has been garnering a lot of attention in recent days ever since it emerged that the French superstar striker was pushing for a move away from France after falling out with the club.

It comes as a shocking development just months after the 23-year-old striker penned down a new deal with the French giants, which itself came as a shock to most as he was expected to leave the club last summer.

Mbappe wanting to leave PSG is apparently due to the fact that he is unhappy with the club’s business and the fact that he is not being utilized in his favoured position at left wing due to Neymar’s presence.

Speaking about the prospect of Liverpool swapping Mohamed Salah for the French star, Heskey was not for it.

“At big clubs, yes, you are going to have ‘stars’ at the club but everyone should be on the same page really. I don’t believe Jurgen Klopp would be willing to treat a player different to any other person in his squad.”

Heskey believes that the issues that come with signing Mbappe, on an ego level is one main reason why the Reds must not pursue a deal for him.

“Mbappe is a class player and he’d walk into anyone’s starting eleven, but then you have all these issues that come with him. “

“So would I do a like-for-like swap with Mo Salah for Mbappe? Probably not. Mbappe is a younger version of Salah and he is very exciting, but I would rather keep Salah.”

Heskey is not wrong. Liverpool signing Mbappe could prove to be detrimental for them. As good a player as Mbappe is, he is extremely egoistic and we do not want a player who cannot co-exist with his teammates.

Jurgen Klopp has shown us at Liverpool that we can succeed and build a world-class team without signing superstars. He has preferred to sign unknown players and make them world-class.

Signing Mbappe for Liverpool must not be an option, especially if it means swapping out Salah. The latter may have been in a rut of late but the financial commitments and the potential headaches – as PSG have found out – perhaps don’t make any potential deal worth it.
