Liverpool urged to ‘appease’ fans by replacing Salah with World Cup winning ace

Darren Bent advises Liverpool to replace Mohamed Salah with Kylian Mbappe

Darren Bent believes Liverpool could appease the fans by replacing legendary forward Mohamed Salah with Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe. Bent expressed that Mbappe is the best player on the planet and a perfect replacement for ageing Liverpool forward, Salah.

The Egypt captain has continued his prolific form for the Reds this season despite some changes in his playing style. The tactical changes allowed Salah to adapt to his ageing which caused a slight regression in his pace and agility.

Salah has relied on his creativity and technique to contribute to the team and impressed in his new tactical role. However, the 31-year-old’s significant drop in form after mid-March coincided with Liverpool’s surprise dip in form, costing them multiple trophies.

Despite enjoying success for most of the season, Liverpool’s persistent vulnerabilities in both areas of the field had dire consequences. The Reds suffered from poor composure in front of the goal and conceded early regularly throughout this season.

As Salah and many other important players dropped form and showed complacency, Liverpool lost out on their title ambitions. Nevertheless, Salah has contributed 25 goals and 14 assists from 42 games in all competitions for Liverpool this season.

Speaking to Andy Goldstein in talkSPORT (h/t YouTube), Bent claimed that replacing Salah with Mbappe would appease the Liverpool fans. He said:

“Imagine you are trying to appease the Liverpool fans by going ‘listen, you are going to lose Salah, but Mbappé is coming. I still think Mbappé is the best player on the planet. He is incredible. That would work, if Salah went and he came in. I almost feel like that’s what Liverpool needs and he is versatile. He can play down the middle. Liverpool has a number of attacking players at the club that are versatile.”

Mbappe has failed to make any impact during the Champions League semi-finals against Borussia Dortmund as PSG crashed out. The Frenchman has received criticism for failing to make an impact during the crucial games, disappearing for the most part.

Even during the World Cup final between France and Argentina, Mbappe’s resurrection happened after his team won a penalty. Nevertheless, the 25-year-old is a prolific goal scorer and among the best players in the world in his peak years.

Liverpool fans are knowledgeable and while the majority respect Mbappe’s talent, they want to avoid the drama that follows him. The Frenchman could cause a major distraction and demand power within the squad which is very cohesive right now.

The Reds’ strength lies in teamwork and putting the club before anyone else, irrespective of their reputation and accomplishments. Furthermore, Mbappe’s wages could cause a major issue for the finances of the club and also within the locker room. Additionally, Liverpool would prefer developing a talent who could achieve or surpass Mbappe rather than buying the brilliant forward.
