Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson weighs in on the Reds’ title hopes after defeating Manchester City

Speaking after Liverpool’s nerve-wracking 1-0 win against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, the Reds’ left-back Andy Robertson spoke about Liverpool and their title hopes and stayed in the moment despite getting a huge result against the reigning champions.

The one goal from Mohamed Salah was enough to separate the hosts and the visitors. Andy himself was good down the left flank both offensively and defensively. Despite the Reds winning against probably the biggest title contenders this season, Andy knows that Liverpool are still way behind in the race for the Premier League title.

Slowly, but surely, it seems from the last few run of games that Liverpool are fighting and could possibly end the season on a better note than it started on. Robbo will certainly have a huge role to play in securing a good finish for the Reds.

Speaking to the press (h/t The Mirror), here is what Robbo had to say about the title race this season. It is fair to say that he is realistic about Liverpool’s chances

“Now other teams are getting involved, Arsenal look amazing this season, Tottenham look a different animal, Chelsea are getting going again, Man United.”

“Those teams are trying to close the gap in terms of quality, but we’re too far behind to focus on that just now. We just need to focus on putting in performances like we did tonight because if we do that I believe we’ll get chances against any team, and defensively I thought we looked solid.”

Next run of games for the Reds

Post this win against Pep Guardiola’s side, Liverpool find themselves in the eighth position on the Premier League table. Notably, this was also Man City’s first league loss since February. There is still a long season to be played and the Reds could do much better than they are doing now.

This statement victory will give Liverpool loads of confidence heading into other games, and hopefully pump the lads to get a win each time they go out to play, like in their prime during the 2018-19 season.

Injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota certainly do not help the cause, but again, god-willing, these players are back in action rapidly. It can help Liverpool negotiate the second half of the season at full strength.
