Liverpool among teams keeping tabs on Rafael Leao
According to Calciomercato (via Teamtalk) [h/t Liverpool Echo], Liverpool are among the teams who are interested in making a move for talented Portuguese winger Rafael Leao from AC Milan with many other clubs also in the race.
Top European clubs are said to be huge fans of the 23-year-old starlet who has been lighting up the Serie A with his performances in recent times. There are huge expectations for what Leao can achieve and his next move is expected to be a very big one.
Combining wonderfully well with Theo Hernandez on the left flank of the Milan attack, the duo often wreak havoc on opposing defences and not many clubs in the world are able to keep them in check.
Leao who joined the Italian club from Lille in 2019 has impressed with every opportunity he has gotten and is looking increasingly like a genuine match-winner on his day. His abilities are very different and that’s what makes him unstoppable at times.
Not the typical winger that one would imagine, Leao is tall, strong and very physical but he uses all these to his advantage by using body orientation and physicality to get past players and get into the box.
In 23 games across all competitions for Stefano Pioli’s side this season, Leao has managed to score four goals and provide eight assists. He is a lot more than just numbers though and has a great influence on the game.
Leao has a contract with the Italian giants until 2024 (transfermarkt). He is yet to pen a new deal with Milan as things stand and his price will only keep dropping as he gets closer to contract expiry.
The 23-year-old has a reported £130m in his contract but unless Leao pens a new deal down, clubs will not trigger his release clause. They could get him for cheaper as things stand and no club would want to pass on that opportunity.
Liverpool will definitely be a great option for Leao and he can also have a good run here on the left flank. He will give us something very different to Luis Diaz and this move seems to make sense.
