Report: African forward interested in Anfield move if Liverpool want him next year

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha could move to Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp wants him

Time and time again, at every transfer window, a story for a Wilfried Zaha move away from Selhurst Park. Zaha to Liverpool stories are also not new and the winger was first linked with a move to Anfield back in 2012.

There is always a curious case when it comes to the Ivorian winger. A general notion that he is a player who could play for Europe’s elite exists in the media. Graeme Souness had once said that he envisages Zaha playing

for Real Madrid.

However, as obvious as it could get, the Ivorian does not seem to move out of South London. A claim from Calciomercato (h/t Liverpool Echo) now claims that the 29-year-old could move to Liverpool if Jurgen Klopp shows interest in signing him.

Earlier this season, Zaha scored the opening goal in Palace’s fixture against Liverpool. His goal though was later cancelled out by Luis Diaz. Having said that, it is no new thing to also add that he is a proven Premier League player.

More recently, he scored a goal against Wolverhampton to take Patrick Vieira’s side to their third victory this season. The former Manchester United player is more than a veteran at Crystal Palace. In 439 appearances for the Eagles across all competitions, he has 88 goals and 74 assists.

As far as Liverpool are concerned, they are in need of players who could play through the left channel. Luis Diaz’s injury against Arsenal left the Reds with no natural left-winger. Diogo Jota, who could play in the position was also left injured against Manchester City.

A move for a player who could don that role is wise, but can Zaha be the player is the big question. There is absolutely no doubt over his skill level, but for a player nearing 30, there is no guarantee that Liverpool would get his best playing days.

As far as his contract situation is concerned, that expires in 2023. Liverpool could get a rebated price for Zaha this January if they decide to move for him as that would be Palace’s last chance saloon to cash in on a player who has done so much for the club over the last few years.
