Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony urges Liverpool to take a look at Brentford star Ivan Toney
Liverpool have been urged by Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney. The 26-year-old has been in fine form this season for the Bees.
Toney signed for Brentford from the Cambridgeshire-based club. Since then, the English striker has helped the Bees to promotion to the Premier League in the previous campaign. And the 26-year-old has been impressive since then.
Speaking on The Hard Truth podcast (h/t Express), the Peterborough chief praised Toney. And MacAnthony would not mind seeing the 26-year-old striker at Liverpool.
“Ivan’s on a different level.
“If Liverpool had owners who would write that cheque, I would happily have him in Liverpool’s team, like that.”
Toney has featured in every game for Brentford this season. In 11 Premier League appearances, the striker has scored eight goals and provided two assists.
The 26-year-old was also awarded his first England call-up by Gareth Southgate in the recent international break. Unfortunately, the striker was not handed his debut for the Three Lions.
Liverpool signed a talented number nine in the recent transfer window from SL Benfica. However, Darwin Nunez has not had the best of campaigns yet. The Uruguayan has had a hard time finding the back of the net.
Picking up a red card against Crystal Palace did not help his cause. The 23-year-old will evidently need time to settle into a new country. Against West Ham United at Anfield, the forward scored the Merseyside club’s only goal in the 1-0 win.
Unfortunately, Jurgen Klopp lost one of his attacking options as Diogo Jota picked up an injury against Manchester City. However, we have other options, like Roberto Firmino, who has been in fine form lately. Mohamed Salah also seems to be getting back to his best.
