Michael Owen predicts Mohamed Salah to finish as Liverpool top scorer this season
Speaking to the Mirror, former Reds striker Michael Owen predicts Mohamed Salah to finish this season as the top scorer for Liverpool across all competitions. Ever since his debut season for the Reds’, no player has scored more goals for the club than Salah.
The three-time Premier League golden boot winner finished last season with 23 goals tied alongside Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur. Overall, Salah has 165 goals and 67 assists in 269 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions.
He has had a slow start to his scoring spree in the Premier League this season though, scoring only three goals and getting three assists in 10 appearances. However, with Liverpool’s form getting better going deep into the season, Salah could possibly get back to his usual best.
In competitions apart from the Premier League this season though, the former Roma winger has six goals and one assist in five appearances. That includes a hat-trick against Rangers in the UEFA Champions League.
Speaking of his goal-scoring record, here is what Owen had to say to The Mirror:
“Well, I think if you ask anybody, any Liverpool fan, to predict who will be Liverpool’s top scorer by the end of the season. I’d be very surprised if many said anyone other than Mo Salah.”
With a newly-promoted outfit in Nottingham Forest up next for the Reds, Salah would surely back himself to get on the scoresheet. Moreover, his record against sides who have recently come into the top flight has been more than decent.
He scored a hat-trick against Leeds United back in 2020 on their return to the PL, and last season scored a goal and secured two assists against Norwich City as well. Forest would certainly have to beware of the Egyptian’s threat coming into the fixture.
Sublime Salah
Currently, Liverpool’s top-scorer in the league is Roberto Firmino with six goals and Salah would hope that the pair continues to score goals for fun as they have been this season, and hopefully, win more games on their charge towards the top 4 and potentially the title as well.

Mo would certainly want that record of being Liverpool’s top scorer this season, and knowing the man, he would want to top the league charts as well. He has done so in every Premier League season he has been here since his transfer from AS Roma in the summer of 2017, after all.
