Liverpool explain why Darwin Nunez and Thiago Alcantara missed the Nottingham Forest clash

Liverpool stars Darwin Nunez and Thiago Alcantara unavailable for Nottingham Forest trip

Following a positive display against West Ham United, one would have expected Liverpool star Darwin Nunez to start the game against Nottingham Forest. So is the case for Thiago Alcantara. However, both players were not a part of the matchday squad for the fixture against Steve Cooper’s side.

Darwin came off the pitch around the hour mark after scoring the only goal in the game against the Hammers. Apparently, the 23-year-old “felt something” and his not being a part of the squad is not a precautionary measure as per Klopp.

As far as Thiago is concerned, the Spaniard also played for an hour in the Reds’ last league fixture, and the call made on the midfielder for today’s fixture was very late as per the manager.

Speaking to the club’s official website, here is what gaffer Jurgen Klopp had to say about leaving the pair out for today’s visit towards the Central Midlands:

“For Darwin the game comes too early, he still feels the intensity of the game muscle-wise so there was no chance he could play today. Maybe he could play tomorrow or on Monday but not today.”

“And Thiago got a bad ear infection overnight. The decision was made this morning at 5.15. That’s how it is sometimes and that’s the reason for that.”

Break in momentum for Darwin and Thiago

The fact that Darwin has to sit out during this time wherein he almost started to find his feet at the club comes as a break in the momentum and hopefully, he can start off from where he left off in the Reds’ next game against Ajax.

Thiago has been a very integral part of the Reds’ campaign this season, and the fact that he is not there in today’s lineup has cornered the gaffer to play the 4-3-3 with Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot supporting Fabinho in midfield.

In what is a major boost for the Reds otherwise, Jones’ returning from injury has come at the right time. Moreover, this would be his first start this season, and hopefully, he puts in a good performance against a newly promoted side.

With Bobby and Salah starting upfront with Fabio Carvalho, we could expect a good game against the Notts. The Egyptian has recently found his scoring boots and hopefully, our momentum continues and the Reds walk back into the tunnel after the full-time whistle with all three points.

As for Thiago and Nunez, hopefully, the pair is back in contention for the trip to Ajax on Wednesday in a UEFA Champions League clash.
