“Please don’t think”- Jurgen Klopp on if Liverpool have title ambitions this season

Jurgen Klopp says that Liverpool still have a lot of ambitions this season

Earlier this month, after a lacklustre start to the season, Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp insisted

that the Reds are no more in the title race. However, since that comment, the Merseysiders have won three of their four games, suffering just one controversial loss at Arsenal.

The wins were two hard-fought 1-0 wins in the league against Manchester City and West Ham United earlier this week. Prior to the City game, Liverpool beat Rangers 7-1 away from home. Liverpool next face Nottingham Forest in their next league fixture.

A switch in formation and tactics seems to be working well for the Reds, who are performing well in the new 4-4-2 formation. Gaffer Klopp will be happy with the latest few results going his way, but the season is quite long.

Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp urges fans to not rule them out of the title race.

Speaking to the press (h/t The Mirror) about the Reds’ title ambitions, and tracking back on his old comment ruling the Merseysiders out of it, here is what Klopp had to say:

“I really would like to rewind the movie a little bit and whenever someone asked me “are you still in the title race?”, I would shout “yes of course!”

“But please don’t think we have no targets, we are aimless or whatever, we are completely full of ambition still, but we have to do it step by step, and that means game by game, and the next one is Nottingham. Our aim is to win as many games as somehow possible. If that would bring us closer to fight for whatever, then great.”

Liverpool back on track?

The three consecutive wins across all competitions seem to have uplifted the mood in the dressing room. And with Klopp suggesting that the Reds are still in the title race, the players will have received the shot in the arm needed to do better in the weeks to come.

Currently, 11 points adrift from the top of the table, another win against Nottingham will make it three wins in succession in the Premier League, giving us some much needed momentum. The Reds are currently in seventh place with four wins from 10 games.

Klopp’s side play three league fixtures before the international break for the World Cup and it would benefit the Reds greatly if they secure maximum points from all of them.

It is refreshing to see Liverpool keep clean sheets over their last few games. That will significantly help the Reds’ cause in terms of goal difference and hopefully, help them put in a strong finish to the season.
