Jurgen Klopp dismisses awful away form of Liverpool following Nottingham Forest loss
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has dismissed suggestions that the club’s away form had anything to do with the Nottingham Forest loss. The German believes the Red should have gotten the three points at the City Ground.
The Merseysiders took on the Tricky Trees on 22 October in the Premier League after coming off impressive victories over Manchester City and West Ham United. But unfortunately, we were unable to build on those results at Anfield.
Both teams had a number of good opportunities in the first half. However, Virgil van Dijk missed a few chances for Liverpool, while Jesse Lingard also spurned an opportunity to give Forest the lead.
The second half did not present many opportunities initially. However, Joe Gomez fouled Taiwo Awoniyi after losing him. The England international picked up a yellow card for bringing down the Nigerian, who would have been through on goal.
The resulting free-kick saw Steve Cook receive the ball and put in a fierce cross. Awoniyi hit the post at the first attempt, but the ball rebounded off the post and the striker had another bite at the cherry to give the West Bridgford side the lead.
Liverpool have now failed to win the first five away games of the 2022/23 campaign. On the other hand, our home form is brilliant. And speaking via Liverpool Echo after the 1-0 loss to Forest, Klopp was asked about the Red’s struggles on the road.
“You cannot compare these games. It’s pretty much better for us to play at home, that’s always been the case. In normal circumstances we should have won this game. I don’t think it had anything to do with how we played away.”
Liverpool had several chances at the death to snatch a point from the Tricky Trees. Van Dijk had a free header from a corner in the final minutes. Unfortunately, Dean Henderson was at hand to save the shot.

Fans were hopeful that the Merseysiders would be able to close the gap at the top of the table. We still have a ways to go in the league and the top four should be the minimum for us.
