“You’d get goals”- Liverpool urged to replace Jordan Henderson with this Premier League midfielder

Transfer News: Danny Murphy has suggests Liverpool should replace Jordan Henderson with Declan Rice

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has suggested that Liverpool should replace Jordan Henderson with Declan Rice.

Henderson in his 12th season as a Red player, following his move from Sunderland in 2011. And the 32-year-old seems to be a trusted option by Jurgen Klopp till today.

Rice, meanwhile, has been at West Ham United since 2013. He rose through their academy ranks and has established himself a regular for both club and country.

The Liverpool captain sees his current contract expire in 2025 (transfermarkt). And now while speaking on talkSPORT (h/t Liverpool Echo), former midfielder Murphy believes Rice should be one to replace the veteran player.

“Could you imagine him in Liverpool’s side? If he was playing ahead of Fabinho and alongside Thiago, and he took Henderson’s place at Liverpool. Imagine him in that role, he’d get you goals. He likes little one-twos in the box. I think he’s a dynamic midfielder and if he had more licence and would get more goals”

Jurgen Klopp has been going through a midfield crisis this season. The club saw Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Arthur Melo all get injured.

This has left limited choices for selection in the middle of the park. Plus, Henderson is currently 32 and he cannot be expected to start every game for the club, especially during this hectic schedule of a season.

An experienced and young midfielder like Rice would make an ideal replacement for the former Sunderland man. The Reds were even linked with a move for the 23-year-old this summer, although nothing came of such rumours.

It remains to be seen if the Merseyside club makes a move for the midfielder in January or next summer. His current contract expires in 2024, though the club has the option to extend it for another year (transfermarkt).
