“None of them”- Liverpool icon explains why Jurgen Klopp’s side still have a shot at top-four

Danny Murphy weighs Liverpool FC’s top-four chances this season

Speaking to talkSPORT via Liverpool Echo, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy spoke about the club and their chances to finish the league in the top-four spots after enduring what could be termed as a sluggish start to the season.

After 12 games, Liverpool are struggling to make ends meet in the league, and are in the ninth position. With only four wins and as many losses in 12 games, the Reds have not had an easy go this season, at least domestically.

Losing games to Nottingham Forest and Leeds United, who at the time of the fixture, were in the relegation zone, will hurt Jurgen Klopp’s men more than a loss against Arsenal. Moreover, the Merseysiders also lost the derby at Old Trafford against Manchester United.

However, Danny Murphy believes that the top-four race is not as straightforward as it seems and the teams currently in the position are also vulnerable to losing momentum. Here is what he said to talkSPORT via Liverpool Echo:

“I still think they’ve got a chance because when you look at who they’re competing with, which is Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle, none of them are brilliant, none of them are consistent.”

Inconsistencies have crept into the Liverpool dressing room early in the season and Murphy believes that the same could happen to any other team later in the campaign as well. If Liverpool manage to get a grip on their form and generate enough momentum, there is always a chance for Klopp’s men to finish in one of the UCL spots.

Liverpool could finish in the top four

The case has not been the same on the European level wherein the same group of players have shown better consistency, and have finished the group in second place. The Reds have advanced to the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League, and also brought an end to Napoli’s winning streak.

There is just enough time for Liverpool to make a better case for themselves domestically, and hopefully, they get back to winning ways in the league starting against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend. Antonio Conte’s men, even though they are in the top half of the table, have been fairly inconsistent and have just one less loss than the Reds.

Murphy has been showing faith in the club with his words on multiple channels and has been quite vocal with support for his former club. Hopefully, Liverpool live up to the same and get the results coming our way sooner than later.
