Fabrizio Romano clarifies the situation of Jurgen Klopp and his future at Liverpool

Following a tough start to the season for Liverpool, doubts started creeping into the minds of a certain section of the followers about manager Jurgen Klopp and his future at the club. After struggling to get their 2022 league campaign off to a flyer, many pundits have also raised questions over the German’s tenure on Merseyside.

12 games into the new campaign, Liverpool are in the ninth spot on the Premier League table and have only four wins and as many losses. A few unexpected losses against Nottingham Forest and Leeds United have derailed the Reds’ season and it has now become a cause of concern.

Matters are better on the continental level wherein the Reds finished second in their group and qualified for the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League. However, the same set of players have had a tough time coping with the nitty-gritty of the English top tier and the threat of not qualifying for next season’s UCL looms over their heads.

Amid so many questions over his future at the club, Italian Football journalist Fabrizio Romano spoke on his YouTube channel and here is what he had to say about the German’s situation at the Merseyside giants:

“What I can tell you is that from what I’m told, behind the scenes, the relationship is still very good between Klopp and the owners; between Klopp and the board.”

Romano has made it absolutely clear that the relationship between the board and Klopp has always been healthy, and there is no threat of the club sacking him. However, it is true that the Reds have been struggling this season.

Klopp still has a lot to offer

Arriving at the club in 2015, taking over from Brendan Rodgers, Klopp had a huge task at hand to reinstate Liverpool as the European giants they once were. Seven successful years later, the German won with the Reds every top-flight club trophy football has to offer. He won the Champions League in 2019 followed by a 19th league title for the Reds in 2020.

It would be extremely unfair to the man if the board decides to relieve him of his duties after what he has done for the club. His current contract at the club runs until 2026, after he signed an extension earlier this year.

There is just enough time in hand for the former Dortmund manager to turn things around on Merseyside. The upcoming international break, and an opportunity for the players to take a break from club football should help the players reset going into the new year. Hopefully, they up their game and we finish in the UCL spots come the end of the campaign.

More Liverpool News:

It is absolutely no shock that Liverpool are suffering a blip in form, but one would not have expected this so soon after the Reds were challenging for the Quadruple not more than six months ago. Klopp has nothing to prove, and hopefully, he can steer us back on the right path sooner than later to secure his and the club’s future.
