Liverpool all set to offer a new contract to Roberto Firmino
Roberto Firmino has been a revelation of sorts for Liverpool this season. The two best performers for the club this season have been the Brazilian between the sticks in Alisson and the one upfront in Bobby.
The former Hoffenheim striker is Liverpool’s top-scorer in the league this season with six goals, and the three assists. He is also the Reds’ highest assist provider in the league this campaign.
Many believed that Darwin Nunez’s arrival over the summer would push the 31-year-old down the pecking order with the Uruguayan and Diogo Jota ahead of him. However, he has silenced the critics in style with his top-class performances this season.
A season like this for Firmino was much needed. He did not have the best of campaigns for the last couple of years or so and his long-term future with the Reds was in the hanging. But he has bettered his goal tally in the league from last season in only 11 games this season.
With his resurgence, the Reds have multiple options to choose from in Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and possibly Fabio Carvalho, who can play a like-for-like for Bobby who is a master of the false 9 role. The 31-year-old runs out of contract next summer (transfermarkt).
New Deal for Bobby Firmino
However, Football Insider via Liverpool Echo now states that the club is ready to offer the player a new deal, and rightly so. Bobby has done so much for the Reds in the past and continues to do so at the age of 31 as well.
He is manager Jurgen Klopp’s most-used player at the club and all in all has 106 goals and 78 assists in 345 appearances across all competitions.
