“A tie that speaks for itself”- Jurgen Klopp gives his verdict on UCL draw

Jurgen Klopp excited as Liverpool draw Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last 16

According to the club’s official website, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given his verdict on the club’s UEFA Champions League last-16 tie against Real Madrid.

The draw is a repeat of last season’s final where the Spaniards won 1-0. The Reds dominated proceedings on the night but failed to find a way past Thibaut Courtois, once again falling short against Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

In fact, this is the fourth time that the Reds have been drawn against Los Blancos in the last five years. Unfortunately, Real have won three of the four clashes between the sides and one ending in a draw. There is no better time than now for Klopp and co to rectify that record.

The Liverpool boss is unfazed and is excited about the tie. After all, it is a blockbuster doubleheader between two sides that can be considered European elite.

“The first thing that we can say about this draw is it is proper Champions League. This is a tie that speaks for itself and one that we should all be excited about.”

Klopp also outlined the fact that the game against Real will not be easy. This is the first time under Klopp’s tenure that Real will arrive at a packed Anfield. Several teams have struggled to adapt to the challenge and hopefully Real too will follow suit.

“Real’s European record is the best around. We know this. But we also know that ours is not too bad. On top of this, we know that we have Anfield and everyone knows what this means.”

A packed Anfield awaits.

The Spanish giants have been somewhat of a bogey side for Liverpool under Klopp. Whether it be Zinedine Zidane or Ancelotti, the Reds have continued to fall short. Ending the streak the next time of asking would be a welcome result and get the monkey off our back.

With 20 European titles between them, the draw is the most exciting in this season’s competition. Hopefully, we will be the last club standing once the dust settles.
