Transfer News: Liverpool target Konrad Laimer open to England move

RB Leipzig’s 25-year-old Serbian midfielder Konrad Laimer is apparently open to moving to the Premier League (as per Dean Jones  [h/t The Express] amid his links to Liverpool. The Reds will consider this a huge boost in their pursuit of the midfielder.

Laimer runs out of contract in June 2023 per Transfermarkt and is free to hold pre-contract agreements with European clubs from 1st January as per FIFA rules. The central midfielder is an extremely effective asset when available and the Reds could do with his services.

For most parts of the season, a major chunk of Liverpool’s midfielders have been on and off the pitch due to injury issues. Naby Keita has not even featured for the Reds this season yet and it’s already November. A player like Laimer will help increase the squad depth and bring the average age of the squad down as well.

In 167 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit across all competitions, Laimer has 11 goals and 18 assists. As earlier mentioned, since his contract runs out in the summer, Leipzig could do with a fair bit of money by selling Laimer as early as January too.

Moreover, with the Reds’ desperation for a new somebody in the middle of the park, it would not be a shock to see Liverpool actually spend some money to bring a midfielder in the upcoming transfer window.

However, Laimer has had his fair share of injuries as well. Even this season, a Syndesmotic ligament tear has kept him out of most part of the season and has made only six appearances this season.

Laimer is injury-prone

It does not make the most sense to sign an injury-prone player to tackle the issue of injury, but with the Premier League a different dynamic than that of the Bundesliga, we could see Laimer play a different style to suit the league in case he decides to move to the Reds.
