Liverpool join Manchester United in the race for Cody Gakpo

As reported by ESPN via HITC (h/t Mirror), Liverpool are set to join the race to sign talented PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo with Manchester United also said to be very interested in the player.

Manchester United have long been linked with a player who has literally set the stage alight in the Eredivisie in the past couple of seasons and it is only a matter of time before the player secures a move to a big club.

It has now emerged that the Reds have identified the 23-year-old as the missing piece in their attack jigsaw. Klopp’s assistant Pep Lijnders has apparently asked the club to pursue a deal for the talented winger.

The Reds did reinforce the attack in the summer when they signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica but it looks like they want more ammunition. Gakpo will be a solid option for Jurgen Klopp’s team.

In 23 games for the Eredivisie giants across all competitions this season, Gakpo has scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists across all competitions. These numbers are truly sensational and the Dutch starlet is indeed a special player.

Jurgen Klopp is known for signing youngsters from remote leagues and making them world-class players and Gakpo could definitely be the latest addition to the long list of players under the German manager.

One question for Klopp to answer would be where to play Gakpo. The 23-year-old is predominantly a left-winger but we already have Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota who can play in that position.

Another question would be whether Gakpo can translate these kinds of numbers in the Premier League. However, we will never know the answer to this unless we take a chance and we must gamble with Gakpo.

The negotiation process will certainly not be easy with Manchester United in the race but Liverpool must do all in their might to sign Gakpo.
