One more jolt for Liverpool in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham
Liverpool’s interest in Jude Bellingham is a well-known ‘secret’. However, the Reds face the dilemma of the midfielder joining La Liga giants Real Madrid as well. A new twist in the Bellingham transfer saga means that Liverpool also face the risk of the 19-year-old not moving anywhere.
A report from 90min (h/t The Express) is exploring the fact that amid so much interest from the Premier League, the former Birmingham City midfielder could choose to play at the Signal Iduna Park for Borussia Dortmund instead of securing a transfer this season.
Apart from Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City show interest in signing the player. However, with these new developments, it makes it hard for these clubs in their trail of Jude as well.
It has rather been a tough few weeks for the Reds in the first half of the Premier League this season. A faulty start means that with one game to go before the international break for the World Cup, Liverpool sit in the eighth position on the table with five wins, four losses and four draws.
One could raise doubts over the inconsistencies in the midfield selection and injury frequency in the middle of the park for Jurgen Klopp’s men. The manager does not have a lot to choose from when it comes to central midfielders, and injuries to the first-choice players meant that team selection became inconsistent at times as well.
Bellingham could solve Liverpool’s issues
Keeping that in mind, someone like Bellingham joining Liverpool would solve most of, if not all of the Reds’ problems pertaining to their midfield. Moreover, he shall contribute to reducing the average age of the midfield and the squad as well, which is one of the highest in the league.
With the report also stating that Bellingham will make a decision on his future only after the World Cup, Dortmund’s asking price of £131m could also increase if he continues to play on the same level in Qatar later this month as well.
There is a major doubt over Liverpool’s capability to afford Jude’s expensive transfer fee. However, in case a move for the Englishman fails to go through, the Reds could go for potentially cheaper alternatives like Ismael Bennacer and/or Konrad Laimer.
