Liverpool could make a move for Borussia Monchengladbach star Marcus Thuram in the January transfer window
According to Fussball Transfers (h/t Liverpool Echo), Premier League side Liverpool have been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram ahead of the 2023 January transfer window.
Son of the legendary French World Cup winner Lilian Thuram, the 25-year-old is making a name for himself in the Bundesliga. With 13 goals and four assists in 17 games across all competitions this season, he is earning rave reviews for his performances.
Thuram’s performances are also attracting attention from German champions Bayern Munich. Die Roten often runs the rule over rival talents in the German top flight and could prove to be an obstacle for Liverpool.
The French star’s contract with Gladbach expires next summer, meaning he could leave the club for free. Striking a deal for him in January represents the German side’s best opportunity of recouping any transfer fee.
Speaking after the 3-1 win over Southampton at Anfield, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp revealed that the club could be active in the January window. The Reds’ have clawed their way back following the poor start to the campaign and bringing in the right reinforcements mi-campaign could give them the tools for a strong finish.
“If there is something possible we will do it but the door is open and we are open as well.”
Summer signing Darwin Nunez is steadily finding his feet and is increasingly looking like a Reds’ superstar. This will have lowered the pressure on Mohamed Salah’s shoulders to find the back of the net.
Both Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are out injured, leaving a void on the left wing. Thuram is a versatile player who can play anywhere along the frontline, providing Klopp with options when needed.
