Liverpool debutant Ben Doak signs his first professional contract with the club

Liverpool have always been known for promoting players coming out of their youth ranks and providing them with the perfect landscape to make the higher jump.

The latest in line of such tradition is 17-year-old Ben Doak, who according to the club’s official website, has signed his first professional contract with the club. A U21 Scottish International, Doak has impressed with the Liverpool youth ranks since making his move in the summer.

Mostly coming off the right wing, the player has made a name for himself for his direct running with a keen eye for goal and just as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harvey Elliot and Joe Gomez amongst many others have made a name for themselves coming from the Academy.

Doak would definitely be looking to follow a similar path and be able to carve an identity for himself at Anfield. Since the arrival of Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s recruitment department has stressed the issue of acquiring young promising talent, who, with the right development can be turned into world-beaters.

It is also an approach to preparing for the future in order to sustain the foundations of the dominance that has been laid down. Harvey Elliott, Fabio Carvalho, Sepp van den Berg, Calvin Ramsay and other bright stars, with the right guidance, we would already have a squad of ready-made players once the first team personnel go past a certain age.

The tradition of a young buck making his way through the ranks and entering the first team is what the game is all about. Sacrifice, discipline and determination are key components for any young player to come up the ranks and come near the first team.

With Doak already making his first team debut against Derby County in the Carabao Cup and was named on the bench against Southampton, it would be wise to say that Klopp does feel that soon the player might be up to be thrown into the action.

Till then, the winger just has to keep his head straight, keep working hard and wait for his opportunity and once the opportunity arises, know its value and grasp it with both hands.

He made his debut in the 0-0 draw against Derby County in the EFL Cup and this could mean that we get to see a bit more of him this campaign. It could have been a way for the club to show Doak they have faith in him before a contract offer was made – which can only be a good sign.
