Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold handed England boost following Kyle Walker injury
According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has been handed a personal England boost after it has been confirmed that Kyle Walker won’t be fit for England’s opener against Iran.
Walker, who has been out for quite some time now has been included in the England squad with the hope that he will somehow get fit by the tournament starts but that does not seem to be the case.
With Reece James also missing out on a spot in the World Cup squad due to an injury, England suddenly find themselves stretched for options in the right-back role and this could work well for Trent.
The English right-back has had a tremendous club career so far but the same cannot be said about his time with the national team. He has struggled to establish himself with Gareth Southgate not trusting him.
Trent is one of the most talented full-backs going around in world football but he is not in the best of moments right now. He has been struggling to impress this season but that could be about to change.
With Walker out against Iran, Southgate could choose to deploy Trent in that position. However, it is also likely that the English manager will start Kieran Trippier there and the Liverpool man will be on the bench – but that is something we can only know an hour or so before kick-off.
England have a plethora of options at right-back when all of them are fit and it is understandable that Trent does not get much game time. However, there is no doubt about his potential.
Reece James and Trent are the future of England in the right-back positions and it remains to be seen which one ends up having the better career in the future. There is no doubt that both of them will be successful.
