Liverpool’s Guinean midfielder Naby Keita has a lot of interest from top clubs in Europe. The latest entrants to that list as per Neil Jones (h/t Liverpool Echo) are Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Juventus.
The 27-year-old is yet to feature for the Reds this season and is still sitting out due to a hamstring injury. His contract with the club is set to expire in the coming summer per Transfermarkt. By the looks of it, Keita will depart from the club on a Bosnian Transfer instead of renewing his deal.
Since there are no talks over a contract extension, he is, as per FIFA rules, free to hold negotiations and conversations with European clubs from the turn of the year. However, from a Liverpool perspective, Keita’s time at the club has been far from satisfactory.
Ever since his hyped move from RB Leipzig for £52.75m, Keita has not been up to standard for Liverpool. A flurry of inconsistent performances and frequency of injuries have led to the fans having mixed feelings towards the Guinean and his time at the club.
In 117 appearances for the Reds across all competitions, he has 11 goals and seven assists. These stats have been the same since last season too because Keita is yet to feature this time for the Reds.
Perhaps, a move for the player is something that would suit both, the player and the club. Keita has not been at his best for the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp could also do with the services of another player, given his availability in crunch games, something Naby was probably not capable of during his stay at Merseyside.
With PSG and Juventus showing a lot of interest in Keita, he could well and truly be on his way out of Liverpool this summer. However, the Reds could also try and sell him in the upcoming January window to get some money in exchange for the midfielder.
But the last time PSG secured a free transfer for a Liverpool midfielder, Gini Wijnaldum, he did not have the best of times at the French capital and saw himself shipped to AS Roma on loan.
However, Keita will have a good opportunity to redeem himself probably, one last time after the league resumes post the international break. In this current situation, a new deal seems very unlikely and hence, the Guinea captain will have a point to prove before departing.
