Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko addresses his future amid Liverpool links

Apart from Jude Bellingham, another Borussia Dortmund player sees himself linked with a move to Liverpool. 17-year-old German striker Youssoufa Moukoko is one of the top targets for the Reds this summer.

The Dortmund academy graduate made his debut for the first team last season. Moukoko broke through this time around and in 22 appearances this season, he has six goals and six assists in all competitions.

With his contract expiring next summer (Transfermarkt), there has been a lot of speculation over his future. Liverpool are one of the top clubs linked with the teenager and with that in mind, Moukoko had a few words to say.

The German is currently on international duty with Hansi Flick’s side for the World Cup and when prompted about his future, here is what he had to say to the reporters (h/t Liverpool Echo)

“I haven’t spoken to Hansi Flick about it at all yet. But then again, we’re not at BVB, we’re here with the national team at a World Cup. I feel very comfortable in Dortmund, I feel the confidence of the coach. You’ll find out in the end whether I decide to stay or not.”

Naturally, he did not want to reveal much information about his future. However, the fact that he said he is feeling “comfortable in Dortmund” could mean that there is a slight possibility that he remains in Germany.

Nevertheless, Liverpool are much more settled side when it comes to the European level and one could argue that the Reds are a notch or two bigger than the Bundesliga giants. The Reds could do with the services of such a player.

Securing the Long-Term future

Roberto Firmino also runs out of contract next summer. The player is in sublime form this season and there could be a contract extension for the Brazilian. But at 31, he is the oldest member in Liverpool’s attack, and a young long-term replacement like Moukoko could benefit the Reds.

In 59 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund, Moukoko has 11 goals and eight assists. As per the Mirror, the Bundesliga giants will accept a fee of a mere £26.2m for the striker and that is something which could excite potential buyers.

Liverpool could look to get the player on board as early as January and hence, could spend money in the upcoming window as well. However, since his contract expires next summer, he is eligible and could negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other European clubs from January 1.
