Liverpool ‘keeping track’ of Mason Mount contract talks at Chelsea

As per The Guardian (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool stand linked with a surprise move for Chelsea midfielder and England international Mason Mount. The 23-year-old Cobham graduate has been with the Blues since the age of six.

Arguably Chelsea’s best player in the initial few weeks of the Graham Potter Era, the West London outfit going into the international break have not been in the best of forms, as they have either lost or drawn their last five league games.

His current contract at Chelsea expires next summer (Transfermarkt) and the talks for an extension is not news yet. The same report also names Italian giants Juventus alongside the Reds showing interest in Mount.

Contract talks between Chelsea and Mount’s representatives are on hold until the end of the World Cup. Liverpool have made note of this fact, and hence, sees themselves linked with a move for one of the brightest young midfield talents in the Premier League, in Mount.

In 181 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions, Mount has 32 goals and 37 assists across all competitions. He does not possess the best record against Liverpool though as he won only two of 10 games against the Reds and has only one goal against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Is Mount Liverpool bound?

As far as signing him is concerned, Liverpool should leave no stone unturned if they decide to move for Mount. A Premier League-proven player, with loads of continental experience for his age, and his best yet to come, only a few will match these criteria, and Mason is among those.

Liverpool are also interested in Jude Bellingham, but his valuation of £131m might be a cause of concern for the Reds. We have a reputation for not spending a lot of money in the transfer window and hence, free agents could turn out to be the Reds’ best bet which Mount could soon join the ranks of.

A move though, is highly unlikely, as Mount is an extremely important player for Chelsea and has been a part of the Blues since a tender age. Moreover, playing for one of their rivals might not be something Mount could be eager to do.
