Liverpool linked with a ridiculous free transfer move for Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo
According to Spanish outlet AS (h/t Liverpool Echo), manager Jurgen Klopp wouldn’t mind signing Cristiano Ronaldo at Liverpool, and the former Manchester United striker would be open to joining the Anfield outfit due to their UEFA Champions League status.
Man United and Ronaldo parted ways after a mutual agreement to terminate the contract and since then there has been a lot of speculation on where the 37-year-old would end up next. A number of clubs have been mentioned in the report but the mention of Liverpool is just flabbergasting.
Ever since Ronaldo gave that infamous interview with Piers Morgan in which he hit out at Manchester United, the club, the hierarchy, the facilities and also managers like Erik ten Hag and Ralf Rangnick, it always seemed like his end in a Red Devils shirt had arrived.
However, even though he is a free agent, linking him with Liverpool just sounds wrong for so many reasons. First and foremost, a Manchester United legend – which Ronaldo definitely is – playing for Liverpool is not normal.
Liverpool are definitely not in a position where they have a necessity to sign a striker. They are well stacked in that position with as many as three options. Darwin Nunez, Robert Firmino and Diogo Jota are all genuine options to play through the middle.
The Reds have a very different model in transfer windows and the kind of players they’d like to invest in. Even though Ronaldo is a free transfer, his demands will demolish the well-maintained Liverpool wage structure and the club will never agree to something like that.
When quizzed sometime back about Man United signing Ronaldo, Jurgen Klopp said that Liverpool don’t do short-term signings. It is hard to imagine that he will consider the 37-year-old, especially with no necessity for a short-term fix.
There are reasons why Ronaldo is being linked with a move to Liverpool. The 37-year-old will want to play at a top European club and Liverpool are one of the best around and also play in the Champions League.

Regardless, it seems very hard to imagine the Reds signing Cristiano Ronaldo. This transfer is likely to never materialise, and the Echo have rightly labelled it as ‘ridiculous‘ speculation.
