Transfer News: Youssoufa Moukoko dreams of playing for Barcelona amid Liverpool interest

Borussia Dortmund and Germany international striker Youssoufa Moukoko dreams of playing for Barcelona amid interest from the Reds, according to 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo).

The 18-year-old has been in exceptional form for his club this season and has gained the attention of quite a few clubs. Apart from Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also monitoring the player.

However, it has now been revealed that the youngster is a boyhood fan of the Catalonia club and dreams of playing at the Camp Nou. This is likely to give them the edge over us if Barcelona do become serious about signing him.

Perhaps he sees the void that can open up at Barcelona in a short while. Robert Lewandowski was a headline signing from Bayern Munich this summer but he is already 34 years old, while Memphis Depay is primed to leave the club in 2023.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was sold to Chelsea on deadline day in the summer, while Martin Braithwaite was released as a free agent. On paper, Barca will realistically need to scour the market for a long-term solution up front sometime in the near future.

Moukoko has scored six goals and registered another four in 14 Bundesliga appearances this season. Such form of his has earned him a call-up to Hansi Flick’s Germany squad for the World Cup.

Jurgen Klopp could do with a young striker like him. Roberto Firmino is in his 30s despite being in such good form, while Darwin Nunez is yet to perform at a consistent level.

Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are injured, with Nunez filling in on the left wing for the past couple of games. Having a young striker like the 18-year-old would help in increasing squad depth and increasing competition among the attackers.

Our form in the league this season has been disappointing as compared to Barcelona in theirs. We are sixth on the table and virtually out of the title race this season. Also, the fact that the player is seemingly a Barca fan does not help our cause.

But that does not mean we do not make a move for the player. The striker sees his current contract expire next summer and the club will be wise to up their interest before he signs an extension or, worse, makes a move elsewhere.
