Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson praises this Manchester United star after England make World Cup last 16

Jordan Henderson praises Marcus Rashford in England’s win against Wales

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has taken to Instagram to praise the talented Manchester United star Marcus Rashford for his brace in England’s win against Wales which secured their progression to the next round of the World Cup.

Henderson was handed a start in the game for the first time this World Cup by Gareth Southgate, lining up alongside Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice in midfield as the English manager opted to shuffle a few things around.

Ultimately, England ran 3-0 winners against the Welsh team, with a brace from Rashford and a goal from Phil Foden sufficient to send the Three Lions through to the next round. It was a good performance from Southgate’s team after their tepid display against the USA.

Henderson did start the game against Wales but there was a lot of criticism over the thought of bringing the Liverpool captain back into the 11. It remains to be seen if it was a one-off thing or if Southgate looks at this as a permanent thing for the next matches.

As good a player as the Liverpool captain has been over the years, Henderson hasn’t been at his best in the past few months. The English midfielder has really struggled at the club level and he is no longer indispensable in the national team.

To be fair to him though, Henderson had a pretty decent performance last night and completed the full 90 minutes. He will hope to have made a case to Southgate to pick him for the next match but it is difficult considering the talent on display.

Taking to Instagram, here is what Henderson had to say about the exceptional performance from Rashford.

“This guy tonight 🔥🔥🔥 Knockout stages “

Rashford had a great performance for the Three Lions as Henderson alluded to and this would put a selection dilemma in Southgate’s head on whether to start the Manchester United forward ahead of Raheem Sterling.

It’s ultimately a good problem for Southgate to have and let’s see which way the English manager goes in the knockouts.
