Liverpool are keeping tabs on £50m rated Bundesliga centre-back who could be Joel Matip’s replacement

Liverpool are keeping tabs on the £50 million potential Joel Matip replacement who plays as a centre-back for Eintracht Frankfurt

According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Liverpool has made Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back Willian Pacho a ‘priority’ for the summer transfer season. The Bundesliga defender could turn out to be a valid Joel Matip replacement for the Reds.

This season has been quite an evidence of poor defensive performance by Liverpool. This season, the Reds have only maintained 9 clean sheets in the league, trailing Arsenal’s 16.

They’ve conceded more goals than Arsenal and Manchester City

this season, indicating that they need to improve their defence to compete with elite sides. Their recent 2-0 defeat against Everton was another example of the fact that Liverpool needs a new face to add to their defensive lineup.

Liverpool’s latest target

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has reported that Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back Willian Pacho is a target for Liverpool. With Joel Matip’s contract expiring this summer, the defender is receiving interest from Rome. Liverpool could make Pacho the replacement for Joel Matip.

The 22-year-old transferred from Royal Antwerp for $9.6 million (€9 million/£7.7 million) last summer. He may potentially net his current Bundesliga club a sizable profit following a successful season.

Michael Edwards is ‘already working’ on prospective acquisitions to enhance the team this summer, including Pacho. Being a great help for his team this season, appearing in 40 games, Pacho has been identified as the ‘perfect profile’ to help reinforce the backline.

He could be a great asset to the Reds

According to recent reports, his signing this summer will require a bid of up to £51 million. It will be interesting to see whether Liverpool is willing to pay this amount.

Liverpool desperately needs defence reinforcements as Joel Matip is ready to leave on a free transfer. There have also been doubts about Ibrahima Konate’s recent performances.

More Liverpool news

They already have a lot on their plate currently, with replacing Jurgen Klopp being one of the biggest jobs they have at the end of the season. Pacho matches the profile and age bracket for their defensive requirements. But we’ll have to wait and see whether Liverpool is ready to pay the fee.
