Transfer News: Liverpool could make a move for 24-year-old Championship midfielder

Liverpool could move for Sheffield United midfielder Sander Berge in January

French outlet Jeunes Footeux (h/t Liverpool Echo) report that Liverpool could in all likelihood make a move for Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge this January, and the Sheffield United midfielder could leave Bramall Lane sooner than later.

Ever since his goal against us in October 2020, he has been on the Reds’ transfer radar and apparently, even Chelsea are monitoring Berge’s situation. His contract expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt), and hence, an opportunity appears for Sheffield to cash in on the player before his prices go down, probably for the one last time this transfer window.

The versatile midfielder has 11 goals and nine assists for Sheffield in 80 appearances across all competitions. The 24-year-old could turn out to be a cheaper alternative compared to other Liverpool transfer targets.

Amidst two major issues of an ageing squad at Liverpool alongside inconsistent performances, the addition of another player might be something which the Reds are actually in need of. Berge can prove to be a very good squad player, and chip in with performances when the club needs it from him the most.

Berge headed to Liverpool?

He can play multiple positions in the middle of the park, which might be an enticing subject for Jurgen Klopp, who likes his players to fulfil any role given. He could also be an understudy to Fabinho, who is not in the best of forms himself.

The report says that Liverpool could go ‘offensive‘ in their pursuit of the player, and that is why one can actually expect this one realistic signing. Having said that, nothing would be better than Jude Bellingham.

The former Genk midfielder could well and truly be on his way to the Reds. But he is a name that may not convince the fans fully.

We are expecting a world-class addition in midfield while Berge could be a hit or a miss. He is playing in the Championship, which isn’t the best reflection of his talent and ability.

He would make sense as a signing if we bring him alongside a world-class name in the centre of the park. But as a standalone signing for our midfield, we can do better than Berge, with all due respect to his talent.
