Liverpool reignite interest in 27-year-old Mexican star ahead of the 2023 summer transfer window

Liverpool reignite interest in Hirving Lozano ahead of the 2023 summer transfer window

As per Metro, Liverpool FC have reignited their old interest in Napoli’s Mexican winger Hirving Lozano and are planning a move for the player over the summer. The Reds had an interest in him ever since 2017, and if the author remembers correctly, he was the first-choice transfer target over Mohamed Salah back then.

The 27-year-old has been on the Reds’ radar ever since his days at PSV Eindhoven and due to a wage issue, Lozano is delaying his extension with Napoli. Presently, his deal with the club lasts until 2024 (Transfermarkt

).

Lozano has faced the Reds twice this season, losing one game and winning one. In 19 appearances across all competitions this season, the Mexican international has four goals and three assists to boot.

Overall, in 133 games for Napoli across various competitions, he has 33 goals and 16 assists to his name. One could argue that a player of Lozano’s profile is not necessarily a fit for the Reds at the moment.

However, injury situations in the front line could make the Reds rethink their transfer options. Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are currently injured and that could mean that the Reds could dip into the transfer window to fill in the gap, at least in the short term.

But a player like Lozano as a filler for the short-term is like using a sword to cut vegetables. Lozano is much more capable of being more than a mere squad player for the Reds and is capable of making a difference.

Even The Mirror notes that a contract extension might be tough given Lozano’s high wages, and a move could possibly happen. But nothing concrete yet. Personally, Liverpool certainly have the firepower in their ranks and can do without the services of the Mexican international.

More Liverpool News:

Hopefully, Diaz and Jota return back from their respective injury layoffs soon, and the Reds can field a full-strength side sooner than later.
