Liverpool are eyeing a loan move for Chelsea star Christian Pulisic
As per 90min (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are eyeing a move for USMNT and Chelsea star Christian Pulisic. The Reds’ interest in the 24-year-old reignites after injury blows to Liverpool forwards Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.
The pair will not be in action until March, and as a stopgap, the Reds might be looking at Pulisic as an ideal filler. The former Borussia Dortmund winger is not unfamiliar with Jurgen Klopp, as the player’s European career took off at the German outfit when Klopp was the manager at Die Schwarzgelben. Still, he never played under the German international.
At his current club Chelsea, with the incoming of Raheem Sterling and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang over the summer, Pulisic’s role as a starter has certainly diminished and a loan move where he could be more or less a starter in every game or two is not necessarily a bad option.
Pulisic has shown great versatility in his career so far and has also played the role of an attacking midfielder on multiple occasions. Apart from his natural trade of a winger on either flank, he can also play through the centre and gives the gaffer numerous options.
Pulisic in Liverpool colours?
Extracting Darwin Nunez’s pace on the wing with Pulisic through the middle is also something the Reds could try. But one thing is for sure, game-time until March, that is when Diaz and Jota will return from their layoffs, will come in an abundance for Pulisic, which could be different if he stays at Chelsea.
His contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt) and one could argue that he has been on and off during his time there. Having said that, a transfer sounds unrealistic as no team in their sane mind would want to give one of their most talented stars away to a league rival.
More so Liverpool, who are in a similar situation to that of Chelsea when it comes to a top-four spot chase. Nevertheless, nothing is impossible in football, and the arrival of Pulisic will certainly help negate the injury issues Liverpool currently faces.
