Liverpool told by Danny Murphy to break the bank for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham
Jude Bellingham has been one of the world’s best young midfielders for a couple of seasons and Liverpool have seen themselves linked with the 18-year-old ever since his move to the Bundesliga back in 2020.
Most fans have already pictured him playing for the Reds next summer after his intense celebration with Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson after the skipper scored against Senegal in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 fixture earlier this month.
Liverpool are ‘leading the race’ to get the player’s signature next summer as per Mirror. Many pundits have urged the Reds to get Jude as soon as possible, and the latest on that list is former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy.
Here is what Murphy told Lord Ping via Liverpool Echo on the propsect of Jurgen Klopp’s side signing Bellingham either this January or the next transfer window:
“Jude Bellingham would be a phenomenal signing because there’s absolutely no doubt he’s a wonderful talent and he’ll make the team better first and foremost. I think it would give everyone a boost, fans and other players alike in a time where it’s needed because they’ve had a bad start.
“It’s hard to be competitive with Man City because of their finances. But Liverpool have managed to do it for a long time now through good recruitment, through great tactics and having a good manager. There does come a time where you have to buy the best in class to try and compete.”
The last superstar the Reds signed was Thiago Alcantara back in the summer of 2020. Moreover, the fact that Liverpool have failed to replace either Phillipe Coutinho or Georginio Wijnaldum since their departures in 2018 and 2021 respectively.
The future midfield for the Reds?
At this time, a pivot of Fabinho, Thiago/Harvey Elliott/Fabio Carvalho and Bellingham with the right mix of industry and goal threat can be something extremely beneficial for the Reds. Throw in Jordan Henderson who still has a lot of football left in him, and the experience he carries shall be immaculate too.
In any case, the midfield needs an almost immediate revamp as the club are presently in a transitional phase, and heading into the future, it is extremely important for the Reds to have a younger squad as that is something which will benefit Liverpool in the coming years.
As far as Murphy’s comments are concerned, he’s absolutely right. For the Reds to compete with their rivals, it is extremely important that the owners start spending the big bucks for the players who can create an immediate impact. For Jude, Dortmund expects £131m per The Athletic.
