Jurgen Klopp earmarks African World Cup hero as priority a January target

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp makes Sofyan Amrabat a top transfer target

According to French outlet Foot Mercato(h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has decided on making Fiorentina’s Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat their top transfer target alongside having Jude Bellingham in the mix as well.

Klopp already met Amrabat’s representatives in the last week, and more meetings are to follow in the coming days to oversee the possibility of a move over the January transfer window. The 26-year-old has been in fine form for the Atlas Lions in the World Cup and is a major contributor to their successful campaign going until the semi-finals.

Amrabat’s contract at the Serie A outfit runs until the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt) and Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur also share an interest in the defensive-midfielder.

Fabinho’s poor form in the midfield for the Reds could prompt the people in charge to look at alternatives for the Brazilian, who more or less has been without any direct competition for his place in the starting XI during his time with the club.

Amrabat plays a similar role, and his box-to-box ball-carrying abilities might be something the Reds can suit in their style of play.

Liverpool have been too static in midfield and the players are not trying anything new. At such times, a new player brings in a new style of play as well, contributing to making the Reds that little bit unpredictable in their approach to the game.

Klopp having made Amrabat his top transfer target hopefully means that the player is all but sure of joining the club as the Reds are desperate for a midfield overhaul at this point in time.
