Chelsea to battle Liverpool for this 21-year-old Premier League midfield star

Chelsea and Liverpool are in the race for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo

According to the Daily Mail, there is fresh interest brewing from Liverpool and their Premier League rivals Chelsea in Brighton and Hove Albion’s Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo. The 21-year-old midfielder was extremely good for his national side in the World Cup in Qatar.

Even in his short stint for Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League since joining the Seagulls in 2021, the central midfielder has been excellent under Graham Potter initially, and now Roberto de Zerbi.

In 25 appearances across all competitions for the Sussex outfit, the player has two goals and as many assists. The Ecuadorian scored against Senegal in the Group Stage of the World Cup as well, but his country failed to progress through to the Round of 16, ending their campaign in a premature manner.

He can play multiple roles in midfield, including central midfield and defensive midfield. Caicedo’s versatility might be something Liverpool could do with. Given the current set’s inconsistent performances, the former Independent de Valle player could in all likelihood make the cut to the starting XI.

An Ecuadorian talent at Anfield?

However, Brighton’s unwillingness to let go of the midfielder might be a hindrance to the Reds. Moreover, the player at a young age is a part of a core midfield trio for the Albion and is a player for the future. Hence, it can be understood by the wish to retain the services of the player for a prolonged period of time.

Chelsea are also in a similar situation to the Reds as their midfielders are also ageing and would obviously need long-term replacements for the players.

Liverpool need a young midfielder to carry their midfield for the future as we are in a transition period and alongside their primary transfer target, Jude Bellingham, Caicedo also looks like a player who could do well at the club.

Adding a young midfielder to the team can also provide depth and competition for places within the squad. Additionally, this can drive all players to improve and perform at their best and ensure that there are options available if injuries or other absences occur.
