Transfer News: Liverpool ‘given priority’ in the race to sign in-demand Argentine World Cup hero

Liverpool ‘given priority’ in the race to land World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez

As per Portuguese outlet O Jogo (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool apparently stand given the ‘priority’ to sign SL Benfica’s Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernandez. The 21-year-old formed a very important pivot and stood absolutely instrumental in La Albiceleste‘s successful run in the World Cup wherein his country emerged victorious

Moreover, Fernandez also won the Young Player of The Tournament. His performances have for sure caught the attention of top clubs across Europe, and Liverpool is no different. There is no hiding the fact that the midfield stands as one of the weakest aspects in the club’s eerie form this season.

Even heading into the World Cup, Fernandez was in top form for his club and scored three goals and got an additional five assists from 25 appearances across all competitions. Alongside Jude Bellingham, Enzo is one of the top young midfielders who see themselves linked with a move to Liverpool.

It is certainly good news that Liverpool have emerged as the frontrunner over various clubs in France, Spain and Italy. But ‘priority’ does not necessarily mean that Enzo is straightaway on his way to Liverpool.

Enzo to Anfield soon?

With the form of Fabinho, and the ageing factor taken into consideration, Liverpool are in dire need of reinforcement and it makes sense for them to go big on a player who can deliver for years to come.

The same outlet was the first to report Darwin Nunez’s transfer from Benfica to Liverpool, so there is obviously the credibility factor there. Hopefully, Liverpool make the most of their opportunity to sign the player, and hopefully, we see both him and Bellingham rocking the midfield for the Reds next summer.

A new midfielder could certainly provide additional depth and competition for places in the squad. This could help to keep existing players on their toes and ensure that the team has a strong pool of players to choose from for manager Jurgen Klopp.
