Liga NOS giants reject mammoth £88m bid for Liverpool and Real Madrid target

Benfica have rejected an £88 million bid for Liverpool target Enzo Fernandez

According to reports in Portugal (h/t Liverpool Echo), Portuguese club Benfica have rejected an £88 million bid from an unnamed club for Liverpool target Enzo Fernandez.

Liverpool are not the only club interested in the World Cup winner though, with Real Madrid also said to be keen on a move for the talented midfielder. At this point, we still don’t know which club made the bid for Enzo.

What we do know is that Benfica are not willing to part ways with the Argentinian star, even for the gigantic fee of £88 million.

What amount would tempt them to sell Enzo remains to be seen.

The biggest issue in this deal is that Enzo made the switch to Benfica from River Plate just back in the summer. It’s hardly been six months since his move to Europe and he is already one of the most sought-after talents in the world.

Such has been Enzo’s performances at the World Cup that clubs don’t mind splurging the cash to sign the Argentinian. The defensive midfielder was awarded the ‘Young player of the tournament’ at the showpiece event.

If his performances on the biggest stage are anything to go by, Enzo is a very special talent. His composure on the ball for his age is excellent and he seems to be a very calm operator at the base of midfield.

Although he plays as an eight for Benfica or as a part of a double pivot, Enzo showed us at the World Cup that he can perfectly play as the sole holding midfielder. This is one reason that makes the 21-year-old very appealing to us.

Fabinho has not been having the best of seasons this time around and we do not have a natural replacement in the holding midfield role. Enzo can be that player and even if the Brazilian returns to his best, the Argentinian can play alongside him or further forward.
