“I’d like to look back”- Liverpool defender unhappy with one particular goal Manchester City scored in EFL Cup tie

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips talks about moving on from Carabao Cup loss to Manchester City

There were absolutely no doubts about how tough the fixture against Manchester City could get for the Reds as it was the first game after the international break. The result seems like a close loss, but the 3-2 scoreline does not justify the Reds’ bang-average performance against a strong Man City side.

Goals from Fabio Carvalho and Mohamed Salah were certainly not enough for Jurgen Klopp’s men to beat Pep Guardiola’s side, who got their first win against Liverpool in the entirety of the year.

One Liverpool player had a fairly decent outing coming on in the 38th minute of the game for the injured James Milner, and Nathaniel Phillips made the most of the chance he got against a top-quality opposition.

One of the three goals the Reds conceded was a set-piece-induced one. Nat had a word about the same with the club’s official website, and here is what he said:

“The goals that they scored, certainly [we] feel like we could do better, especially the set-piece,”

“It’s always so frustrating to concede from a set-piece. I’d like to look back at that one.”

The Bolton Baresi for the Reds

Nat has been on and off the field for the Reds post the 2020/21 injury-laid season and the ‘Bolton Baresi’ has impressed in all games he has been a part of ever since the first-choice central-defenders have returned to the squad.

Liverpool star Nat Phillips.

Also, the fans deserve to see Virgil van Dijk and Nat start a game or two together as that is one duo which could be really effective for the Reds. It is actually shocking how the two have not even played a single match together for Liverpool in so long.

But with that being said, it is important for the Reds to keep their heads high and move on to the next game in the second half of their campaign.

The Reds face Aston Villa in their next fixture in the Premier League on Boxing Day and after a sad result against City, Liverpool would certainly hope to get their PL shenanigans restarted in a much better way.
