Report: Liverpool ‘could afford’ €40m midfielder playing in Serie A

Liverpool ‘could afford’ Fiorentina’s Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat deal

According to the Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool could in all likelihood ‘afford’ the deal for Fiorentina’s Moroccan midfielder Sofyan Amrabat who sees himself on Liverpool’s radar after his world-class performance for the Atlas Lions in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup.

A planned offer of €40m is something the Serie A outfit ‘could not refuse’ as per the same report. His contract at Fiorentina expires in 2024 (Transfermarkt) and following his wonderful performance for Morocco, he could well and truly be on his way to a big club.

As claimed by The Mirror a few days ago as well, Amrabat is keen on a move to Merseyside as well after a few positive talks with the Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp. Also, the fact that the January window is fast approaching is raising all kinds of speculation over a potential transfer.

Following the poor form of Liverpool’s midfielders, more so Fabinho, the Reds need reinforcements in that department. The Brazilian, in his four-year stay at Liverpool so far has had literally no competition for a place in the starting XI, and signing someone like Amrabat will help that aspect as well.

That is not it. Even other midfielders at Anfield are not the youngest by any means and at some point, Liverpool will need long-term replacements for the likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara.

We are linked with Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund, of course, but the price tag and competition makes that a very hard transfer to secure. Amrabat lacks the glitz and glamour that a name like Jude Bellingham carries with it, at least for now, and could be a more gettable target.

Presently, the situation at Liverpool calls for immediate recruitment in terms of players, and hopefully, we sign a player or two this window, and the main transfer targets by January.

Amrabat has gained a lot of attention after the 2022 FIFA World Cup which could affect his valuation. The Reds have to be careful not to get drawn into a deal they may have been able to secure for less before the event in Qatar… but that’s just how the transfer market works – you snooze, you lose.
