“If something happens”- Jurgen Klopp responds to Liverpool’s January transfer plans

Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp talks about the club’s January transfer plans

The need for reinforcements at Liverpool Football Club is no hidden secret to the world of football. An ageing squad, inconsistent performances and also poor form are a few of the problems the Merseysiders have been facing throughout the season, and the upcoming transfer window in January gives the fans a glimmer of hope to see new players don the Red of Liverpool.

There has been no end to the rumours flying about the Reds signing every second midfielder available out there. After the World Cup as well, a number of midfielders including the likes of Sofyan Amrabat, Enzo Fernandez and mainly Jude Bellingham

have all seen strong links to the Reds in recent weeks.

Amid all of this transfer talk, Liverpool gaffer Jurgen Klopp also had a say and talked about potential incoming in the January transfer window and his words are certainly not the most morale-boosting ones for fans.

Here is what he said on the prospect of new signings next month via Liverpool Echo:

“January in our situation it’s a window where we always say from sport side we are always prepared. That’s how it is. We always work with what we’ve got and that hasn’t changed. We are looking and if something happens, we will see.”

January window for the Reds

Moreover, there does not seem to be a lot of motivation from within the club to complete signings in the January window, but rather save up money for the summer and then go all guns blazing on the big guns later.

However, the requirements of the club are almost immediate and something has to be done with the current situation as given the current form of the midfield, qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League also seems like a major doubt.

In case we do not qualify for the the Champions, transfer targets would not be willing to join the club next summer. Besides, to qualify for the UCL, we need players that can help us attain that goal.

The injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have really set us back while the depth in midfield, especially with regards to quality, has seen us get bested by a number of opponents in the past few months when the first-team players aren’t available for selection.

Lastly, we can only hope that the Reds sign a world-class player or two and make their case for winning more silverware in the seasons going forward. It’s about time we bring in big names and really take the battle to top European giants on the domestic and European front.
