Liverpool considering contract options for Roberto Firmino
According to Brazilian news outlet UOL Sport (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool are considering handing a new short-term contract extension to Brazil star Roberto Firmino.
The Reds are not inclined to hand their talented number nine a long-term deal due to his age and are exploring the option of extending his contract for one or two years until the 2024 or 2025 season.
Firmino’s deal with Liverpool ends at the end of the current season and he is yet to pen a new deal with the club. It remains to be seen if the two parties reach an agreement over an extension of sorts.
The Brazilian has been a great servant of the club. Firmino has been a part of some of our best times in recent years. To be fair to him, he has been having a great season this time after a couple of rather quiet ones.
Bobby Firmino was not picked for the national squad in Brazil which the Selecao lost in the quarter-finals on penalties to Croatia and he is well-rested and fresh to fire for the rest of the season.
Firmino is directly competing with star signing Darwin Nunez who Liverpool signed in the summer. However, both of them are completely different players who can be useful at different times for the Reds.
One of Liverpool’s most creative presence in the forward line, Firmino does a great job of linking up midfield and attack. He is the perfect playmaking forward for a Klopp system and continues to thrive.
Ideally, on the right terms, the Reds must hand a new deal to Firmino. He continues to be great for the team and despite his age, there are not many players in the world who can replicate the Brazilian’s role.
