Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo is keen on Liverpool move in January

According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who spoke to Give Me Sport (h/t The Mirror), Brighton and Hove Albion’s Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo is keen on moving on from the Sussex outfit to other clubs, potentially Liverpool if they firm their interests in January.

The 21-year-old stood as a good performer for Ecuador in the recently concluded FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and his performances have certainly caught the attention of Europe’s elite clubs, and Liverpool are no different, as Caicedo sees himself linked with a move to Merseyside for a long while now.

Not only that, even his pulling of strings in Brighton’s midfield before the World Cup under Graham Potter, and then Roberto de Zerbi was more than enough for top English clubs to take notice of the up-and-coming player.

The need for midfield reinforcements at Liverpool is common knowledge to everyone but recruiters at the club itself. We have one of the oldest squads in the league and for a top team like ours, we need to be dynamic and build a team for the future.

Caicedo is one of the plenty of young midfielders with a link to the Reds and is comparatively much more affordable than the other players on Liverpool’s radar like Jude Bellingham and Enzo Fernandez.

Caicedo’s current deal at the Seagulls expires in 2025 (Transfermarkt) and understandably, even he won’t come cheap but the Reds need reinforcements. And urgently. The likes of James Milner and Jordan Henderson are the past and the present of the team, but they cannot certainly be the future of the squad, and the squad needs to grow as well.

The report states that if Liverpool make their case strong for a move this January, Caicedo could in all likelihood move to the club. Even if not this January, the next summer will for sure echo the need for a new midfielder.

But that doesn’t mean we sacrifice this season. If signing a new, world-class midfielder in January boosts our chances for a top-four finish, then we must go ahead with it.
