Liverpool returned to Premier League action with a pulsating game against Aston Villa, which they eventually won 3-1 with the goals being scored by Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and youngster Stefan Bajcetic while Ollie Watkins scored one for Villa.
Salah’s goal came from some silky work between our two fullbacks with Andy Robertson serving it on a plate for the Egyptian to slot home.
While the early goal provided Liverpool with the much-needed boost for the rest of the game, it also set a personal record for Salah.
His goal against Villa was his 172nd goal for Liverpool and thereby the forward has equalled the record of goals set by Liverpool icon Sir Kenny Dalglish and is now joint seventh on Liverpool’s all-time-goalscoerers list.
In addition to that, Salah also equalled another record set by Micheal Owen by now having scored 55 away goals for Liverpool.
In what is termed as being a lacklustre season for the Egyptian, he is still quietly giving out good performances and in spite of all the criticisms, has scored 16 goals in all competitions until now.
This is pretty impressive and is only being overshadowed by Erling Haaland’s ruthlessness in front of the goal this season.
Salah has developed his game from being a sole goalscorer to doing the dirty work for the team and taking up the responsibility of creating chances for other players as well.
With Robbie Fowler and Steven Gerrard 11 and 14 goals away respectively from Salah, it could be argued that it is feasible for the Egyptian to break the mentioned records this season itself.
The second half of the campaign has started in the best manner possible and it is imperative that the team builds on this performance and gets consistency in the upcoming games.
