Amid the ever-growing interest from both, Real Madrid and Liverpool for their star player Jude Bellingham, the Bundesliga giants now seem to have ‘summoned’ the teenage star to discuss the situation, and possibly a new deal for him to fend off interests as well.
The 19-year-old Englishman has been in sublime form throughout this campaign, scoring nine goals and getting a further four assists in 27 appearances for Die Schwarzbelgen across all competitions.
Even in the World Cup earlier in the season, he got a goal and an assist in five games in that competition. Following a successful spell in Qatar, the transfer speculation grew furthermore for the Reds and even Real Madrid, who do not let the Scousers breathe easy when it comes to the transfer market and in recent years, in the UCL as well.
According to AS (h/t Liverpool Echo), Dortmund have ‘summoned’ the player to discuss his future with the club before 6th January when the Bundesliga giants head to Marbella for a mid-season trip.
Ever since making the move from Birmingham to Dortmund in 2020, the player, in almost three years’ time has grown to become an established starter for the club and has captained the team in various competitions as well.
In 112 appearances for them, he has 19 goals and 21 assists and is easily the most in-demand player in the world at the moment. Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold share a good relationship with the player and hopefully influence him to join the Reds at the end of the current campaign.
The German giants have already set their asking price for Bellingham at €100m upfront plus €40m in add-ons coming in from Liverpool Echo. Hopefully, all discussions end with Jude wanting to switch to Merseyside come to the end of the season as fans have almost virtually imagined him playing the most important role for the Reds in a three-man midfield pivot in the coming years.
He is a player with a high ceiling and has the potential to develop into a key player for Liverpool in the future.
Additionally, with the current financial climate and the uncertain future of the transfer market, it may be wise for Liverpool to invest in young talent with a high potential for development. Jude certainly fits that bill.
