Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool have full faith in Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez is a player who divides the Liverpool fanbase into two stances with his performances until now. The 23-year-old Uruguayan could have so many more goals and assists to his name if he could show just a little bit more composure in front of the net.

He has missed more big chances than the number of goals he has for the Reds ever since joining from Benfica over the summer for a club-record fee of potentially £85m with the add-ons.

Even though his stats are not bad by any means, he could do so much better and the way he is playing with his high ceiling is proving to be a tad bit frustrating with the new set of fans who have not seen what it feels like having Mario Balotelli or Andy Caroll upfront.

Noted Italian Football Journalist Fabrizio Romano, in his ‘Daily Briefing’ for CaughtOffside’s Substack column, spoke about how the Reds totally stand convinced by Darwin and believe that it is just about time with the former Benfica striker. Here is what Romano said:

“It’s not been the easiest start at Liverpool for Darwin Nunez, but all the indications I get from both Liverpool and the player’s side are clear: they are convinced it’s just a matter of time,”

“He’s happy at Liverpool and Klopp is supporting him. No one has doubts into the club or on player side. I think they will keep protecting Nunez.”

Nunez needs to fire soon

To constantly find himself in the middle of so many chances, Nunez has to be doing something right and as Darrent Bent recently spoke about him exclusively on talkSPORT, finishing is probably the easiest thing for a forward to work on and hopefully, he does.

The season is headed towards a crunch from where the Reds need to win virtually almost every other game to ensure a top-four finish to make sure that Liverpool qualifies for the Champions League next season.

At such a time, Liverpool cannot possibly afford Nunez missing so many chances, and he will need to be extremely clinical as we need it more than any other time now. The addition of Cody Gakpo in the frontline could possibly help Darwin to an extent, as unlike Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who is filling in at LW, Gakpo has the natural tendencies of an attacker.

God willing, Nunez starts getting the goals his movement in front of the goal deserves sooner than later. It will only aid the Reds as they aim to end the campaign on a high.
